Capella Equipment Finance achieves Woman-Owned Business Certification

Dix Hills, NY – Capella Equipment Finance, LLC., a diversified equipment financing company offering comprehensive financial and asset management solutions for the needs of mid-sized and large companies across the U.S., announced it has been recently certified as a Woman-Owned Business and Controlled Business and officially qualifies as a Woman Business Enterprise (WBE). Additionally, Capella has also announced the company’s certification as a Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB).

According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), the federal government must award 5% (roughly $25 billion) of its prime and subcontract dollars to WOSBs/EDWOSBs. In 2012, a little over $9 billion was awarded to WOSBs over nearly 180,000 federal actions. Due to the signed National Defense Authorization Act of 2013, WOSBs now have uncapped contracting potential allowing contracting officers to award contracting dollars above the original Small Business Act limitations. These uncapped contracts are valid to any and all WOSBs and EDWOSBs that are currently registered in System for Award Management (SAM).

The WBE and WOSB designations are obtained by following certification criteria set forth by the National Woman Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC).  More than twenty years ago, NWBOC became the first organization to create a national certification program for women-owned businesses. NWBOC was created in response to research conducted by the Procurement Special Interest Group of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) that indicated a large number of corporate and government agencies were not recognizing the benefits of contracting with women-owned businesses.

Lynn Alstad, CEO of Capella, said, “This is a great achievement to be supported and certified by such a strong professional organization built to empower women in today’s marketplace. Our continued growth supporting the equipment needs of mid-sized and large companies and ability to offer unique solutions for the complex procurement processes larger organizations require, place the company in a leadership position as a WBE certified entity.”
